One in five Australians will be affected by a mental health issue each year and the vast majority of those people will receive their care while living and working in their community, among their family and friends. A recently-opened service in Bunbury will provide people in the South West with a new option for their mental health recovery in a community-based setting, close to their personal support network of family and friends.

The facility comprises of 10 independent living units, an administration and consulting building, a communal multipurpose building with cooking, dining and informal living areas and a landscaped courtyard with barbeque facilities and basketball half court.

The new Bunbury community mental health step up/step down service will provide vital short-term, residential support and individualised care for people following discharge from hospital. It will also help those in the community who are experiencing a change in their mental health to avoid a possible hospitalisation.
