BGC CONSTRUCTION WINS NATIONAL SENIORS HOUSING AWARD
GOLD COAST – NOVEMBER 2015 – BGC Construction has won the National Master Builders Association’s Department of Health, National Lifestyle Housing for Seniors Award (Multi Unit Developments) for their work on the RAAFA Orion Terrace Apartments.
Orion Terrace Apartments is a seniors housing development which is part of the larger Air Force Memorial Estate, which is spread over 11 hectares. Orion consists of a six storey building with undercroft car parking and stores, 40 two bed, two bathroom apartments with separate study and large balconies, plus three short stay, one bed one bath units for visiting relatives. The Orion Terraces were designed by HASSELL Architects.
The ground floor level also houses the RAAFA Estate office, medical consulting rooms, a shop, hairdressing salon and a reading room or library.
BGC Construction’s Retirement and Unit Development Manager, John Irvine, stated that the project was testament to the relationship that BGC has enjoyed with the RAAFA for the past 15 years.
“BGC Construction has worked with RAAFA WA since 2000 on projects including the Air Force Memorial Estate, the Vivien Bullwinkle Lodge, the Cambrai Village, RAAFA Erskine Grove, Mirage Apartments and currently building RAAFA RCF (Respite Care Facility) in Bullcreek.
Amenities on site also include a heated pool, gym, tennis court, bowling greens, licensed club with restaurant and a chapel.
“With the client based on site and a whole village full of existing residents, BGC Construction maintained a good working relationship with all parties and helped out where any concerns were raised, or minor issues arose. This was the second apartment block built on the same site for the same client. With a build time of approximately 100 weeks, the project was completed on time and on budget,” added John.
