BGC DIVISIONS COMPLETE SIMS METAL
BGC Construction recently completed Building Works on a major greenfield project at Kwinana Beach for Sims Group Australia Holdings Limited.
BGC Construction Senior Contracts Manager Chris Spooner said the total project works, valued at $29 million, were delivered to a tight timeframe.
“We were delighted to work closely with Sims Metal Management to deliver its largest greenfield development in Australia,” Chris said.
“The overall project also involved Civil Installation and Associated Works as well as an Offline Recovery Building, delivered within a tight six-month period in 2015.”
Demonstrating interdivisional cooperation, BGC Construction engaged BGC Precast as a sub-contractor to provide the precast elements, including wall panels, hollowcore floor panels, columns, beams and bunker wall panels, for the offices and storage bays as part of the Building Works that also included a new workshop.
BGC Precast developed bespoke products to ensure the high-strength concrete bunker wall panels could interlock seamlessly to deliver a flush finish.
Sims Metal Management Project Engineer Matt Bennett highly commended BGC Construction on its project management.
“The schedule for Stage 1 works that BGC aimed for was ambitious, and I was very impressed with their ability to meet their key milestones,” Matt said.
“The team showed a desire to understand the future operations that would be undertaken and this additional communication and understanding, combined with their flexibility and a clear desire to provide us a high-quality finished product, resulted in the Stage 1 works being completed on time and, in essence, on budget.”
BGC Construction is also currently working with Sims Metal Management on a new project in Malaga.
